Question:

I need to carrier 2-bikes and dont want to put in the bed of the truck. Is there an attachment for the Goalpost for a bike rack?

Expert Reply:

According to my contact at Thule there is no bike rack add-on for use with their older Goalpost Hitch Mounted load extender TH997. The only potential option for carrying bikes on a hitch-mount carrier while the Goalpost is in use is a dual receiver adapter like the Curt # D-192.

You will need to check a few things before going this route. This (or any) adapter will reduce your hitch capacity by 50-percent. This means that the weight of the Goalpost (about 30-lbs) along with the weight of the load on it, the weight of the bike carrier you choose plus the weight of the loaded bikes cannot exceed the reduced hitch capacity.

You will also need to choose a bike rack whose shank is long enough to clear the Goalpost's L-shaped base. A lightweight rack like the Curt # C18085 is a good option since it has 12-inches of clearance from the hitch in hole to upright bars. It also fits in both 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches, offers an 90-lb total bike weight rating and it is rated for both car and RV use. Please refer to the linked video.

With this bike rack you can use hitch lock # 63232 and bike cable lock # e98891.
