Availability of Hitch Adapter to Increase Height of Hitch-Mount Motorcycle Carrier

Question:

I will need a trailer hitch receiver adapter for the two motorcycle carrier rack that is within inches from the ground and scrapes coming out of the driveway. I have two motorscooters weighing less than 200 lbs each. If I can get about four to six inch clearance. That would work. What would recommend?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Use of any hitch adapter, such as the Brophy # HT5R, will have the unavoidable side-effect of cutting your hitch's tongue weight capacity by 50-percent. In the case of most vehicles suitable for transporting 2 motorcycles on a dedicated carrier, this reduction in hitch capacity will mean that the weight of the carrier and motorcycles could exceed this reduced capacity. This could lead to damage to the hitch, the vehicle, and/or both of the loaded motorcycles.

Since I do not know what vehicle you are using I suggest you check the trailer hitch's safety/warning sticker for its tongue weight capacity and also the owner's manual for your vehicle to ensure you are not exceeding the limits for either. A better option is to select a carrier that provides more ground clearance.
