Right Tail Light on Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is Bright After Installing Tail Light Diode Wiring Kit
Question:
Bought your RM-154 for my Jeep Chrokee Trailhawk, got it all hooked up, works fine not connected to the motor home. When connected to M.H. everything works fine except the right tail light on Jeep is bright like the brake light is on. Care to guess what the problem is?

There are a few things that we can look into to see what may be causing your problem. The first thing I would check is the installation. Make sure the brown wire from the wiring kit # RM-154 is not spliced into the brake light wire at the right taillight. This would cause the right taillight to be brighter than normal if the running lights are on in the motor home.
When we installed the wiring kit # RM-154 on a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk we had to back probe the taillight connectors with a circuit tester, #PTW2993, to determine which wire performed which function.
If the right taillight stays on even with no light functions being activated from the motor home, then we will want to determine how the right taillight is receiving power. You can test the wire from the wiring kit at the taillight to see if there is power on that wire or on the vehicle side. If it is on the wiring kit side, then I would test the pins in the RV side connector. If you have a 4-way flat connector, then it is the pin furthest from the ground pin. If you have a 7-way connector, then it will be the pin in the 3 o'clock position. If there is power on either of those pins when there should not be power, then the issue is on the motor home side.
I would also check the connectors between the motor home and the Jeep. We recently ran into a situation where the connector on the motor home was not wired the same as the adapter that was being used for the towed vehicle. If you can tell me what type of trailer connector is on your motor home and what type of adapter you are using, I would be happy to give you a diagram that shows how they should be wired.
