Identifying Wire Functions to Install Hopkins 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 47515

Question:

I have a 2013 Toyota Sienna and am trying to install the 47515 4-way flat to 5-way adapter. i am having trouble locating the reverse light to tap into. Do you happen to know the best place to tap it and what the color of the wire is? Thanks

The best and safest method for identifying vehicle wiring functions is to test the wire using a circuit tester such as # PTW2993. Vehicle manufacturers may change wire colors between production runs and so color alone is not a reliable method.

You can apply your tester to the various taillight wires (while a helper safely places the vehicle in reverse to activate that circuit) to find the one that carries the reverse light signal. Once you identify the correct wire you can use the quick-splice connector included with the Hopkins adapter to join the wires in a convenient spot. It's easiest to tap in where the harness runs up behind the rear pillar on one or the other side of the liftgate.
