Cargo Carriers to Fit Crossbars on 2013 GMC Acadia

Question:

I have a 2013 GMC Acadia with stationary cross bars on the roof rack system. The distance between the cross bars is about 41inch . Which type of cargo carrier will fit this? Thanks.

There are three general types of rooftop cargo carriers: fabric bags that can mount in a variety of ways on most any vehicle, metal cargo baskets that attach to roof racks and enclosed plastic cargo boxes that attach to racks. The crossbar spread on your vehicle will prevent fitting many smaller cargo baskets, but one that will work well is the Yakima MegaWarrior # Y07080-82 that measures 74- long x 48- wide x 6-1/2-inches tall. This unit weighs 52-lbs, so your maximum cargo weight capacity will be the vehicle's roof weight limit (as stated in the owner's manual or as confirmed by your dealership) minus the 52-lb weight of the basket itself. (This same concern applies to all carriers.) A lock kit is offered, part # Y07064.

If you prefer an enclosed carrier you might consider one like the Thule Force XT Cargo Box # TH6356B.
