Fit of Hollywood Racks Baja 3 Bike Rack # HRB3 on 1999 Mercury Cougar With Spoiler

Question:

My car is a hatchback with a spoiler with little to no bumper to speak of. II have a Townie i would like to transport as well as an option of also hauling one or two friends bikes one being a Schwhin Hybrid. I had a Saris Bones 3 for my Hyundai Santa Fe and the Townie hung low on that and the Bones 3 is not recommended for the 99 Cougar. Thank you for your advice!

According to Hollywood Racks, their Express 3 model, part # HRE3 is indeed compatible with your 1999 Mercury Cougar as long as it does not have a spoiler. Since you have a spoiler, this will not work for you. We don't have a 3-bike trunk rack for your Cougar.

If you can make it with a 2-bike rack, I have the Hollywood Racks Expedition 2 # HRF6-2 as a confirmed fit and it works with most factory spoilers.

If you'll be carrying women's bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes, it's a good idea to use a top tube adapter bar like part # 64005. The bar spans the distance between the seat post and the handlebar gooseneck, providing a level attachment point to the bike rack so the bike will have better ground clearance.
