Recommended Derale Transmission Cooler for 2005 Chevy Venture Towing 1700 lb Tent Trailer

Question:

I drive a 2005 Chevy Venture. The transmission fluid line dose not pass through my radiator at all. The line leaves the transmission and heads to the radiator, then travels behind the radiator, dose a 180degree bend and then returns to the transmission. I am pulling a 1500 to 1700 lb tent trailer and the van is loaded with 2 adults and 4 kids 700 lbs and then gear another 300 to 400 lbs. Is this cooler the right choice based on these conditions?

As a first step, you'll want to consult your owners manual to ensure you're not exceeding the towing or cargo capacity of your van.

When choosing a transmission cooler, you'll usually want to choose the largest cooler that will fit in the space available (unless you live in a very cold climate.) The ideal spot to mount a cooler is directly behind the grille, in front of the radiator and a/c condenser. The # D13503 is a bit larger, and if you have the room to accommodate it's 11x8-3/4x7/8 inch thick size, it's the cooler I'd recommend.

The fact that your transmission lines do a 180 degree without attaching to anything is kind of strange. Since you've confirmed this, you can use two compression fittings like # D13031 to tap the cooler into the lines.
