Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2005 Mazda 3 Hatch

Question:

I dont want to mount a trailer hitch to the underside of a Mazda 3 hatchback just to use one of the trailerhitch mounted Thula bike racks. Is this HRF2 one of the better bike racks for this particular body style Mazda 3 2005 hatchback? Thanks in advance, I need to purchase one of these before my son heads off to college in 4 weeks. Regards,

I would go with the Thule OutWay 2- Bike Rack part # TH45JV. I checked with Thule and this rack is confirmed to fit your 2005 Mazda 3.

What makes this rack far superior to the others is the attachment system. It uses only 2 rubber coated straps to attach to the vehicle rather than 6 nylon straps like other racks. This makes installation quick and easy and the protected straps also last longer.

This carrier features a locking system for both the rack and the bikes to deter theft. Other carriers require these to be sold separately.

If you plan on carrying any alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Swagman Easy-Out Women's and Alternative Frame Bike Adapter # 64005 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.
