Proper Safety Chain Recommendation for 8,100 GVWR Trailer

Question:

Hi, The highest weight rating for chains I see is 5,400 lbs, but you also have a cable for 6,500 lbs. I need extra length for my travel trailers safety chains, so Id rather just replace the whole thing instead of extending the original. Would two 5,400 lb chains be what Id need for my trailer? Or would that be the combined rating? I want to make sure I have plenty of capacity on whichever chains I buy. Thanks for your reply.

The 35" Long Safety Chain with Clevis Slip Hook # 1483-535-04 has a 5,400 lb capacity. If you used two of these you would have a combined capacity of 10,800 lbs. If you made one chain out of two of these then the capacity would only be 5,400 lbs.

Two of these should provide you with more than enough safety chain capacity.
