Selecting Transmission Cooler for 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3L V8 Towing 4000-lb Trailer

Question:

I have a 2002 chevy Tahoe with the 5.3 v8. I am towing a jayco 20e that weighs around 4,000lbs unloaded. I am considering adding a trans cooler. There are many models that you sell that fit this vehicle . What do you suggest? Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:

Most transmission and oil coolers are not vehicle-specific (apart from the few pan types that are vehicle-specific) and so you can install as large a cooler as you have space for it. You cannot over cool transmission fluid so the largest most-efficient one that will fit is the way to go. The two linked articles will give you plenty of background on the types offered and installation guidance as well.

I suggest the efficient Class IV Derale # D13504 that you referenced. Along with this you will need the Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting # D13035. Representative install videos are linked for you.
