How to Determine the Correct Hub Replacement For Trailer

Question:

I have an old t trailer with dexter split rims. I want to change the hub to a bolt pattern. What hub do I need? The current one is stamped with 8-135. The rim says dexter 2200 max at cold. 14.5 x 6. I want something standard to replace it. Replacing axle is not an option. Thanks

In order to find the correct replacement hub for your trailer you will need to find the inner and outer bearing numbers and the seal number. The 8-135 you see stamped is the casting number and really does not give us the information we need to find the hub that will fit your spindle. I have attached a photo that shows you where you should be able to find the numbers on your bearings and seal. If you cannot find the numbers, you will want to use a precision instrument like a digital caliper to get the dimensions on the spindle as the photo notes.

You then need to measure the bolt pattern on the wheels you wish to use. I have attached a helpful article that shows you how to determine the bolt pattern you can check out.

I have also attached a couple of helpful articles that shows how to replace bearings and seals.
