Can Equalizer E2 Trunnion Weight Distribution Spring Bars Be Used on Reese Head Unit
Question:
I currently have the equalizer E2 trunnion style weight distribution hitch. The shank and head unit that I have does not have any height adjustment. This was fine on my old truck, however on my new truck I need to raise the ball height about 3. My question is will the Reese RP54980 work with the bars I have? I really do not want to buy a whole new system, I just purchased the bars I have last Sept.

I can appreciate your interest in re-using your Equalizer trunnion bars with a different brand of weight distribution head but I cannot recommend doing this. It is unlikely that they will fit properly. But more important, this combination of components will never have been tested together, so their actual combined capacity will be unknown. Neither Equalizer nor Reese would advise to mix their components with those from any other manufacturer. In the event that such a set-up suffered a catastrophic failure, you would have liability that your insurance carrier would not cover since the parts were never intended to be used together.
