How to Flat Tow a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with Roadmaster Stowmaster Tow Bar

Question:

I have a Stowmaster 5000 Tow Bar from a previous towing experience. I noticed the detailed information for the EZ4 Base Plate Kit for the above Jeep says may only be used with motorhome mounted tow bars. The EZ4 Base Plate Kit for a 2014 Cherokee Limited or Latitude says it can be used with either motorhome mounted or car mounted Roadmaster tow bars. A competitors of yours who is selling the same base plate for the Trailhawk says it can be used with either type of tow bar. So, who is correct? If the Trailhawk cannot be towed with a Roadmaster brand car mounted tow bar, why not. If I want to use Roadmaster brand tow equipment, is my only choice to use a motorhome mounted type? Thanks,

I have a solution for you that will let you flat tow your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Latitude with your Roadmaster Stowmaster Tow Bar part # RM-501, but it will require you to use a Blue Ox base plate kit part # BX1136 and then the Roadmaster to Blue Ox Base Plate adapter part # RM-031.

Or you would have to upgrade your tow bar to a set that stores on the tow vehicle like the Roadmaster Falcon part # RM-520.

The EZ4 base plate kits are not compatible with tow bars that store on the towed vehicle. I spoke to my contact at Roadmaster about this recently and he confirmed that this is the case.

I attached an FAQ on flat towing for you to check out also.

If your Cherokee has 4 wheel drive or the Active Drive II system, to maintain the vehicle's stable steering while being flat towed you will want to install the Mopar accessory kit 68321424AB, available from your Jeep dealer. This kit will prevent the Cherokee's steering from shaking while being flat towed.
