Installing a Trunk-Mount Bike Rack on 2014 Dodge Journey

Good Afternoon, I have borrowed a trunk mount bike carrier to be used on my 2014 Dodge Journey. I’ve noticed that the tailgate isn’t steel, but maybe aluminum or some composite. Are you aware of any warning against hanging a bike rack on this liftgate? Thanks

All trunk-mount bike racks confirmed to fit your 2014 Dodge Journey can be seen on the link provided. All will mount to your Journey's rear hatch in essentially the same manner, with the carrier's lower arm resting on the upper tier of the bumper cover. Please note that your rear wiper cannot be used with any trunk-mount carrier installed. Also note that the fit of bike racks is to a degree vehicle-specific so without knowing what rack you intend to use I cannot confirm its fit.

Your Journey does use a plastic composite tail gate, but I verified with Thule that many of their trunk racks are approved for use on your rear hatch.

If your Journey has a roof-line spoiler there is one particular rack that is well suited to it, the Hollywood racks # HRF2-3, which is shown in the linked video in use on a 2014 Journey. This specialized rack is designed expressly for vehicles like yours that have spoilers.
