Can I Put the Leaf Springs on Top of the Axle to Give me More Tire Clearance

My boat trailer has a rectangular axle with the springs mounted on the bottom of the axle, its a drop axle. Can I put the springs on top of the axle to give me more tire clearance

Expert Reply:

Yes, you can move your springs on top of the axle to gain more tire clearance. Doing this will raise the height of your trailer by the height of your axle and the thickness of your leaf springs. For example, if your axle is 3 inches tall and your leaf springs are 1 inch thick at the axle, your trailer would sit 4 inches taller over your tire. If you would like to send me more information about how your springs are attached to your axle, I would be happy to give you more specific information on how to mount the springs on top of the axles.
