Which Weight Distribution and Sway Control System Should Be Used for a 23 Foot Toy Hauler at 8,800lb

Question:

What would you recommend as the best weight distribution system with sway control? would it be Active or Dependant? I am towing a 23 foot toyhauler with a dry tw of 650 and a dry trailer weight of 6220 lb. Fully loaded it would be somewhere like 8800 lb. Thanks

Since your dry tongue weight is a bit more than 10% of total weight, we will assume the same for loaded and estimate that you have a 900 pound tongue weight loaded.

I prefer the pro-active, dual cam sway control systems to the reactive friction systems when talking about a toy hauler or car trailer since the load inside can sway or move too.

For your set up, I would recommend Reese Round Bar Strait-Line Weight Distribution with Dual Cam Sway Control, part # RP66084. It has a tongue weight capacity of 600-1,200 pounds and at 900 you are right in the middle.

The Dual Cam Sway control is pro-active, it works to prevent sway from happening and if the trailer does begin to sway, the system works quickly to correct it.

I have included a link to a video that shows how to install this very kit.
