What Base Plates and Tow Bars are Needed for a 1993 Honda Accord

Question:

Please make recommendations for tow bars and base plate kits for a 1993 Honda Accord that will be towed by a class eight truck as well as motorhomes and school buses as inexpensively as possible. Tow bar and base plates will be used extensively. Looking for the best quality for the smallest price I am able to find. Thanks

We carry RoadMaster base plates as they are one of the oldest and most respected in Tow Bars and Base Plates. Assuming your Accord is not a station wagon, you would use part # 1506-1 for base plates. They are the standard style base plates and are the least expensive for your vehicle.

I would suggest the RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar, part # RM-020 it is a basic, but strong tow bar that should serve your purposes well. It will handle vehicles up to 5,000 pounds which should be plenty for a 1993 Accord.

In addition to the base plates and tow bar, you will need safety chains and some sort of light system.

For safety cables you could use RoadMaster part # RM-645. They should be a comfortable usable length and they have more weight capacity than is needed for your setup.

Finally, you will need some sort of light system. You could use use a temporary trunk mounted kit like part # RM-2120 that plugs into a standard 4-Way flat trailer connector. If you wanted something more permanent and do not mind electrical work, you could use RoadMaster Universal Hy-Power Diode wiring kit, part # RM-154.

These are the basics you will need for towing. Some states do require a braking system, so do check with your State Department of Transportation to make sure you have everything you need.
