To tow a vehicle, you will need more than just the tow bar.

You will also need a base plate kit. A base plate kit attaches to the vehicle frame and provides a place to the tow bar to attach. We carry one base plate kit for your PT Cruiser, RoadMaster part # 278-1.

To use the Tow Ready Adjustable tow bar, you will need an adapter as the Tow Ready tow bar will not attach directly to the RoadMaster base plates available for your car. The adapter is RoadMaster part # RM-025. You will also need to keep in mind that this tow bar is limited to towing speeds of 45 miles per hour. The RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar, # RM-020, may be a much better choice if you will be towing often or long distances. This tow bar would not require the adapter either.

You will also need some kind of light system on the PT Cruiser for brake and turn signals when towing. You can use a temporary light kit like Custer Magnetic Towing Light kit, part # RM-2120. If you are comfortable doing some wiring, you can using a Tail Light Wiring Kit like RoadMaster part # RM-154.

A braking system is also recommended to help safely stop the vehicles. The Roadmaster Even Brake, # RM-9400, would be a good choice for towing your vehicle.

I have linked several articles on flat towing for you to review.

The transmission on PT Cruiser models with automatic transmissions requires a lube pump to be safely towed. Manual transmission vehicles can be flat towed as is. To find out if your Cruiser needs a transmission pump, check the vehicle owner manual for towing procedure recommendations. Try to find a towing section and it should tell you if you need other equipment to tow the vehicle.
