Recommended Brake Controller for 2004 Toyota Sienna

Question:

I am looking at installing an electric brake system for my 2004 Toyota Sienna. Im not sure which controller would be best when using the filters I do not see on for my model vehicle. I was looking into it last year and there were some available. Has something changed?

A brake controller is not a vehicle-specific item, so just about any controller can be used on just about any vehicle. I highly recommend using a proportional brake controller, versus the older time-delay models. A proportional controller feautrues an internal accelerometer that can sense how quickly the vehicle is stopping, and will send the correct amount of voltage to the trailer brakes so the tow vehicle and trailer stop at the same rate. The Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160 is an excellent controller at a good price point that would be an excellent choice for you unless the trailer you're pulling has an electric over hydraulic braking system. For a trailer with electric brakes, which is what would be much more likely to be towed by a Sienna, the Primus would work perfectly.

To install the controller, you'll need a Brake Controller Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. The kit contains everything needed to install the controller, but the vehicle will need to be equipped with a functioning 4-pole connector like part # 118304, if it doesn't already have one.

I'll link you to instructions for the ETBC7 kit, as well as to a video showing the kit being installed on a similar vehicle. Even though the vehicle shown is different, the installation on your Sienna would be almost exactly like what's shown.
