Can I Install My Valley 5th Wheel Hitch on my 2002 Chevy 2500 HD Short Bed With an Install Kit
Question:
I have traded pickups and would like to install my Valley 07053 hitch in my 2002 Chev 2500 HD with 6 ft. box. The frame is different than my old 1/2ton so I am wondering if there is a kit that I can order to install the hitch?

The # RP30035 install kit you mentioned is a universal application. Although it would work fine on your Silverado, I would suggest using part # RP50064-58, it is a custom fit bracket kit with bed rails. Using a custom kit can reduce your install time by 1/2. A Valley hitch is compatible with Reese, Hidden Hitch, Curt or Husky rails, but we do not suggest mixing manufacturers when it comes to frame brackets and bed rails. In order to make sure the frame brackets will bolt up to the rails properly, stay within the same brand. The weight bearing capacity of the installation is based on the rails and the frame brackets being tested together. Having rails and brackets from differing manufacturers could reduce the weight capacity, so it is best to be safe and stay with a combination that has a known weight capacity.
You will also need to use a slider with the 5th wheel on the short bed if you do not already have one. With out a slider on a 6 foot bed truck, the trailer will make contact with the cab, often damaging one or the other or both. I have provided a link below to a page with our sliders.
