Troubleshooting Hopkins Implulse Brake Controller Installed on 2008 Chevy Avalanche

Question:

Hey i put on an impulse brake controller from hopkins on my 2008 chevy avalanche. I connected the four wires under the dash and the brakes on the trailer have constant power. I checked the wires and the light blue wire has a constant current when the red and black wire under the hood is connected to the fuse block. Any idea how to find out why this light blue wire is being constantly powered? Thanks

The light blue wire should only show power when the brake pedal is pressed. To figure out if the problem is with the brake controller or the vehicle itself, disconnect the red/black wire that feeds power to the controller. If the power on that light blue wire disappears, you know there's a short in the controller, and it should be replaced. If there's still power on the wire, it indicates that there's a problem in the vehicle wiring.

You can also try the Orange tow package wire. Use a circuit tester on that wire, it should only show voltage when the brake pedal is pressed. If that checks out, try removing the red brake controller wire from the light blue and try connecting it to the orange tow package wire.
