Can Weight Distribution Systems Be Used on a Trailer Equipped with a Surge Brake Actuator
Question:
Does the presence of a surge brake affect the use of a weight distributing hitch system?

Expert Reply:
Some surge brake actuators cannot be used with weight distribution systems, but many can be safely used together. Sway control systems will make a surge brake actuator inoperable as they do not permit enough trailer movement, or they slow movement too much. You would need to select a weight distribution system like Reese part # RP66022 that does not have sway control.
Check the owner manual for the trailer or the surge brake actuator to see if it can be used with a weight distribution system. If you do not have the owner manual, I have included a link to all our coupler actuators. If you find yours, you can check that product page to see if we have the instructions.
