Scooter Carrier for the Back of an RV and a Burgman 400 Scooter

Question:

Proposed bike is 485lb Burgman 400 scooter, carrying vehicle is a Sprinter 3500 dual wheels conversion van, 22foot in length. Hitch tongue weight capacity is 750#, 10 of towing capacity of 7,500# . Wheelbase is 175 inches and distance from rear hub to hitch pin is 66. I want to be able to load from left to right to ease access to throttle on right handlebar. Scooter is 32inch wide. Hitch is factory installed, and distance from hitch pin to rear bumper is 1, to rear doors is only 2, meaning that centerline of bike will need to be at least 15inch out from hitch pin. Dealer is holding bike pending my resolving whether an appropriate carrier can be found.

I cannot recommend the use of the K2 motorcycle carrier on the back of an RV or converted Sprinter van in this case. The issue is that this carrier, and most others, are not rated for the additional stress and movement associated with being at the back of such a vehicle.

But there is an option that is rated for use behind an RV. It is Ultra-Fab carrier # UF48-979033. It is rated for 500 pounds which is very close to the weight you mentioned at 485 pounds. Please verify the weight prior to loading. The scooter should fit but you will want to get the center of gravity on the scooter as close to the middle of the carrier as possible.

The carrier measures 16 inches from the center of the pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier then approximately another 3 inches to the center of the track where the scooter would rest so it should have the clearance you need.
