Yes, the Reese Universal Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, # RP30035, will work on your 1996 Chevrolet 3500. This kit will fit the 2WD and 4WD models and it will fit the short bed and long bed model. It is also compatible with any fifth wheel hitch that uses the standard above bed base rails.
Keep in mind, this is a universal kit, so drilling will be required to install the frame brackets. I have attached a link to the installation instructions for you to check out. For your truck, you will want to follow the general installation instructions on pages 2 and 3. After that you can skip to page 6 which provides specific measurements for your truck.
