Tailgate Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2014 Ram 1500

Question:

Ive heard some of these tailgate covers dont work well with the new 2014 Ram 1500 because the top of the tailgate is wide. Can you comment on how well Softride tailgate pad would fit my truck? The Thule version has a video showing it being fit onto a 2014 Ram 2500 which has the same tailgate as my truck, but that pad only holds two bikes according to this site and I need to hold 3 or more. So I guess I have two questions: 1 Will the Softride tailgate pad fit a 2014 Ram 1500 tailgate 2 can the Thule tailgate pad hold more than two bikes? Thanks

I spoke with my contact at Thule and she said that you could definitely install more than 2 bikes on the Thule Gate Mate Tailgate Pad # TH824PRO, the only issue will be the weight of the bikes on the tailgate which would be the same for this rack or the Softride Shuttle Pad Tailgate Bike Carrier # SR26457 that you also referenced.

Since the Thule rack has been tested and fits the tailgate of your 2014 Ram 2500 without any issues this would be the tailgate pad I would recommend for you. Most likely the Softride would also work, but since we haven't tested it I could not say for certain.
