Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Behind a Motor Home

Question:

We are new RV-ers Damon Outlaw Toy Hauler with a Standard Class A Hitch. We will be headed across country this summer and I need to know EXACTLY what I should buy for my mechanic to install. We will be towing a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. I have been reading things on all the products on your site. Which is the best bang for my buck? Im assuming I need: Tow bar, baseplate, Safety Cables, Lighting and Wiring.

First, welcome to the RV club! We are always happy to have new members. To flat tow your 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sahara you will need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and a supplemental braking system.

First for base plates you will need to determine which bumper is on your Jeep. If it has a double tube bumper you can use Demco # DM9517046. If it has a standard bumper use # DM9519045 instead.

Then I recommend the Commander tow bar # DM9511012 to pair up with the base plates.

Next you will need a lighting solution. I recommend bulb and socket kit # RM-155 since it bypasses the vehicle wiring.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the Jeep brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Be sure to consult your Jeep owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
