Tongue Weight Capacity For 2012 Honda Civic

Question:

I have a Draw-Tite 24763 Class I SportFrame Hitch with Drawbar installed on my 2012 honda civic. The issue is that it is so low to the ground that when you put on the, Curt 18145 Basket Style Cargo Carrier there is only like 2inch of clearance. I am wondering if you sell an adapter the is U shaped that I would be able to put into the back of the hitch and raise up where the Baset is installed may be 5 inches or so? It would have to be the 1 1/4 in style. Thanks

From what I found in my research the tongue weight capacity on your 2012 Honda Civic is 100 lbs. that includes the weight of any cargo carrier along with the weight of the cargo in the carrier. You will never want to exceed that capacity.

Using a hitch adapter reduces the hitch tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. With the weight of the cargo basket you said you have at 29 lbs, that means you would only be able to carry 21 lbs of cargo if you use an adapter. I cannot recommend any hitch adapter that would work for you.

We do offer a cargo carrier that may work better for you concerning ground clearance. It is the Curt 20x48 Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C18110. This cargo carrier will work with either 1-1/4 inch or 1 inch receiver openings and has a shank with a 3-3/4 inch rise, which would give you that 3-3/4 inch additional ground clearance.
