The first thing you will need to flat tow your 1999 GMC Jimmy 4WD, is a base plate kit. The Roadmaster Base Plate Kit, part # 179-2, is the correct choice for a base plate kit if your Jimmy is not a Black Diamond, ZR2 or an Xtreme. The kit has a simple installation with no welding required. I have linked the installation details for you to check out.
For a tow bar, I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, part # RM-520. The quick-disconnect system lets you quickly and easily mount and remove tow bar on your own.
To complete your setup you will need the following:
Magnetic Towing Light Kit, part # RM-2120, for an easy to install, removable solution. For a more permanent solution, Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, part # RM-154 (I attached a link to an FAQ page on how to wire a vehicle with a diode system).
RoadMaster 68 inch Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000 pounds, part # RM-643
Most states now require supplemental braking systems with towed vehicles. I recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, part # RM-9400. It will help your tow vehicle handle the additional braking responsibilities of towing your vehicle.
You should consult with your owner's manual to determine if you can safely tow your vehicle as is, or if you need additional parts like a transmission lube pump or a drive shaft disconnect.
