Choosing Two Tires and Wheels for a 2,000 lb Axle
Question:
Trying to determine what is the best wheel tire/wheel set up for a 2000 lb axle. For instance will this tire set up support 2200 lbs - so 2 tires @ 1100 lb capacity = 2200 lb capacity? 1,100 lbs at 50 psi Thanks!

Expert Reply:
Two tires with a weight capacity of 1100 lbs will have a combined weight capacity of 2,200 lbs, but you would still be limited to the 2,000 lb capacity of the axle. You will always be limited by the lowest rated component whether it is the wheels, tires, axle or suspension. The best rule to use when choosing new wheels and tires is to choose a set that meets or exceeds the weight capacity of your axle.
You will also want to choose a set of wheels that match the bolt pattern of your hubs and make sure the diameter and width of the tire will fit on your trailer without interfering with the trailer frame or fender. I have attached a help article on how to determine your wheel bolt pattern for you to check out.
