The most likely cause for the Open Ground/No Brakes error message you are seeing on your Prodigy P3 brake controller is a bad ground connection to the vehicle battery. You can unplug the flat connector from the rear of the controller and allow the unit to re-set. Inspect the contacts on the wiring harness, particularly the one for the white ground wire, to ensure it is not bent, corroded or damaged.
Unplug the harness from the vehicle port (unless you did a hard-wired installation) and repeat your inspection of both the contacts on the other end of the harness and of the pins at the vehicle port. Even slight greenish or whitish discoloration can indicate corrosion that could interfere with signals transfer. Clean contacts as needed.
If your brake controller was hard-wired, trace the white ground wire back to the battery negative terminal to ensure its connection is tight. Check this length of wire itself for any damage to its insulation and replace if necessary.
