Will Weight Distribution Work to Tow an Airstream Trailer with a 2014 Ford Explorer Sport
Question:
My tow vehicle is 2014 Ford Explorer Sport 365 hp/360 ft lbs torque with the tow package rated for 5K lbs. The info tag on the hitch has no rating for a weight distribution hitch, just max tongue wt. 500lbs, max tow 5000 lbs. Can a weight distribution be used on this vehicle? I want to tow an Airstream 22foot Sport, 395 lbs tongue wt/ 4500 lbs GVWR. Thank you

You can use a weight distribution hitch with your 2014 Ford Explorer Sport. Page 282 of your owners manual should have information regarding the use of a weight distribution hitch. The towing capacity of 5,000 lbs and tongue weight of 500 lbs would be the same maximum capacities when using a weight distribution hitch.
Based on the GVWR and tongue weight of your Airstream, you should have no problem using a weight distribution system with your Explorer.
If you are still in the market for a weight distribution hitch, I recommend looking at our Reese Steadi-Flex weight distribution system, part # RP66558. This is a bolt-on system and does not require any drilling. It also has integrated sway control which will improve your ride, especially on highways. This system has an effective tongue weight range of 200 lbs to 600 lbs which would work great for your trailer.
This system does not come with a hitch ball. If you need a 2 inch ball, then you can use part # 63845. If you need a 2-5/16 inch ball, you can use part # 63847.
I have attached a help article for you to check out if you are new to weight distribution. I have also attached a link to all of the weight distribution systems we carry.
