There are 5 items (at least) needed to flat tow a vehicle: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. But the first thing you will want to do is check your owners manual for specific information on flat towing your 2008 Ford Edge.

Starting with base plates, you can use # 4408-1. The base plates provided a safe and secure attachment point for the tow bar. For a compatible tow bar, the most popular model is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. I have linked a video showing how it works.

For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.

For wiring you have several options. If you do not plan on towing the Edge often you can use a magnetic kit such as # RM-2120. For a more permanent installation I recommend a diode kit # 154-792-118158.

In either case, it looks like you will need to pull a fuse to flat tow the Edge. Check the owners manual to confirm. To make this process as easy as flipping a switch you can use a fuse bypass, # RM76511. I have linked a video showing how it installs.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the Edge brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
