Is the Control Adapter Module # HBA-CAM Needed for a 2009 Chevy 3500 With P3 Brake Controller
Question:
2013 Chev 3500 with int. controller, elec/hyd trl brakes. No trl brakes. Installed P3, when using manual level, brake pump stays running. Would Carlisle HBA-CAM solve this?

You should not need the Control Adapter Module, # HBA-CAM, for the Tekonsha P3 brake controller, # 90195. The P3 is compatible with all electric-over-hydraulic braking systems. The P3 has an automatic leveling sensor, so you should not have to worry about a manual level. You just want to make sure the unit is facing the direction of travel and make sure it is level side to side.
If you are talking about the manual override lever, then the brake pump should stay running when you hold the manual override. The manual override will send a constant signal to the braking system on the trailer to lock the brakes. If the pump stays on after you release the manual override, then there may be a problem somewhere in the wiring.
The first step I would take is to inspect the wiring for the electric-hydraulic actuator on the trailer. Most electric-hydraulic actuators are wired as follows:
One wire goes to a 12 volt onboard battery. Make sure the battery has the proper amp hour rating for the actuator. One wire should be grounded to the negative terminal of the battery. It should not be grounded to the trailer frame. One wire should run to the breakaway switch and one wire should run to the trailer connector and that wire should only have power when the brake controller is activated. Test this wire without the brake controller being activated. If this wire has power, then that is the issue. We will want to determine why that wire has power without the brake controller being activated.
If you can tell me which electric-over-hydraulic system you have, I would be happy to give you more specific wiring information for your unit and more specific troubleshooting steps. Keep in mind, the HBA-CAM is only compatible with Generation 6 and newer HydraStar actuators only.
