Weight Distribution and Sway Control Recommendation for 2000 Ford Excursion Towing a Coachman 2297
Question:
I have a 2000 Ford Excursion with a 3.7 D The trailer is a Coachman 2297 RLDS with a base weight of 6500 lb and cargo capacity of 3950 lb. We took it out for the first time this last weekend and I had more sway than I was comfortable with. I ordered duel cam sway control arms but I have discovered that my weight distribution hitch is not compatible with them. It has round tension bars that are just flat on the end. I have tried to cancel that order and if not I will just send them back through Amazon. I have looked at part# RP66074 and it looks like what I will have to do. I guess I would sell my current weight distribution hitch to off set some of the cost. Is this a reasonable solution or do you have a more reasonable one?

If you have a Reese weight distribution system you could just swap out to the correct spring bars that would work with the Dual Cam Strait Line System # RP26002.
Based on the capacity of the # RP66074 that you referenced it looks like you need 1,200 lb spring bars.
If you do not have a Reese system and want to use the dual cam setup your best option would be to order a properly rated weight distribution system with spring bars that have the curved ends. For that you would want the Reese Weight Distribution System part # RP66022.
The # RP66074 you referenced has a dual cam, and since you already have the dual cam system you would be better of getting the # RP66022.
