Attaching Ground Wire of Trailer Connector Adapter Like Hopkins # 37185 on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
I have a 4 flat wiring harness plugged into my tail lights on my 2005 jeep grand cherokee. Ive added a 4 to 7 pin connector to my jeep also. My question is can I splice the ground wire from the 4 to 7 adapter directly into the ground wire from the adapter on the 4 flat wiring harness? I have no good grounding point on my jeep otherwise. As long as the ground wire from the adapter is either itself grounded to the vehicle or securely spliced into a wire grounded to the vehicle, you should most likely be fine. But since a good ground connection is crucial to the proper operation of your trailer lighting, you might consider using a self-tapping screw and a ring terminal to ground the adapter directly to the vehicle frame.
