Attaching Ground Wire of Trailer Connector Adapter Like Hopkins # 37185 on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
I have a 4 flat wiring harness plugged into my tail lights on my 2005 jeep grand cherokee. Ive added a 4 to 7 pin connector to my jeep also. My question is can I splice the ground wire from the 4 to 7 adapter directly into the ground wire from the adapter on the 4 flat wiring harness? I have no good grounding point on my jeep otherwise. Thank you in advance

As long as the ground wire from the adapter is either itself grounded to the vehicle or securely spliced into a wire grounded to the vehicle, you should most likely be fine. But since a good ground connection is crucial to the proper operation of your trailer lighting, you might consider using a self-tapping screw and a ring terminal to ground the adapter directly to the vehicle frame.
