Why does the friction sway control need to be mounted at 24?

Hello Bryce. The Reese Friction Sway Control # 83660 needs to be mounted on the trailer tongue 24" back from the center of the hitch ball because the manufacturer says this is where to mount it. Mounting the bracket 24" back from the hitch ball will allow the friction bar to sit at the proper angle/orientation to where it will work correctly. I have linked the manufacturer instructions for you below. Deviating from these instructions in any way will not only void your warranty, but it could cause the system to fail, or to be ineffective.
