How To Wire In A 6-pole Trailer-End Connector

Question:

Hello, I need to replace a 6 way plug for a homemade trailer. There are 7 wires from the trailer, a red, green, brown, yellow and white wire are connected, a black and blue wire are not. Not sure what to do with only 1 connection and 2 wires. Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Barry,

In order to correctly wire in a 6-way connector # RM-910030-8 you're first going to need to know what the functions of those wires are. If your battery is nearby you can use a spare piece of the wire to put 12v power to each wire and see what light turns on and label that wire. White is typically your ground so it is possible that the yellow is just another ground wire for some light or appliance too. If you still have the wires connected to the 6-pole connector then you'll want to take note of each wire's location and compare it to the chart below to determine their functions.
