Size of Spacers Needed to Install Air Lift Air Bag System on a Lifted 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 HD

Question:

I have a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD w/ Fabtech 8inch lift in the front, and BDS 5inch spring lift with 2inch block in the rear. With this setup, it currently sits perfectly level with 43.5inch from fender to asphalt. I am looking to install an Air Lift air bag system and I see that spacers may be needed. Can you tell me which spacer I should use for my particular application? Thanks!

I spoke with my contact at Air Lift and after giving him the specifics of your 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 HD, he recommends using the LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs, # AL57275.

In order to determine what size spacer will be needed, you will need to measure the space between the attachment points for the upper and lower brackets of the system. To get the most accurate measurement, it is best to mount the upper and lower brackets of the system first. You would then need to measure the distance between the two. Subtract the working space for the air bag from this number and this will be the size of spacer that is needed. For example, if the distance between the two brackets is 12 inches and the working space for the air bag is 5 to 7 inches (using an average of 6 is best for calculation), a 6 inch spacer like # F2375, would be needed.

If you end up needing a larger spacer or prefer one made of steel, my suggestion would be to fabricate one yourself or contact a local automotive or machine shop to help you with this.
