Recommended MORryde Cushioned Pin Box For A 16,470 GVWR Trailer
Question:
My 5th wheel, 1621 bolt pattern, specs below, weighed in right at 14K lbs when loaded. I know that that if Im going out for a 3 day weekend Ill be under 14K. I just finished a 3 month outing and Im sure I was over 14K. Which Morryde pinbox should I get? So, the real question is, am I better off with being sometimes slightly over -04 version or sometimes slightly under, the -05 version. Im assuming the hardware is exactly the same and the rubber/bushing are less stiff. Is this true? Am I better off with the pinbox hitting the limits or less cushioning? Dry Weight-12,505 lbs. Payload Capacity – 3,965 lbs. GVWR – 16,470 lbs. Hitch Weight – 2,515 lbs.

Hey Glenn,
With your trailer's GVWR being 16,470 you'd want to go with the heavier 14,001 - 18,000lb capacity shear spring. It'll be a bit stiffer but you won't have to worry about overloading and damaging the shear spring. The shear spring isn't going to be so stiff that you'd have an issue even if you come in under 14k. For a 1621 bolt pattern the MORryde Cushioned 5th Wheel Pin Box # MR84VR you were looking at would be the correct fit.
