Solution for Extra Clearance When Towing a Bumper Pull Trailer with a 2019 Ford F-150
Question:
Hello, I have a 2019 Ford F-150 V-8, 6.5 bed, tow package. I also have a 2021 Keystone Passport 27 travel trailer. I would like to haul my golf cart in the bed of the truck but will need the tailgate down. With the tailgate down it now hits the jack of the travel trailer even with the head rotated. Im reading mixed reviews on hitch extenders. Will there be any negatives? Is there a part number that you would recommend? I need about six inches of clearance. Thanks

Hey Joe, thanks for reaching out!
For your application you need to use a longer shank for your weight distribution system, like the 18" Long Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4500. If you were to use a standard hitch extender it would cut the weight capacity of your trailer hitch in half, and if you're towing a trailer AND loading a golf cart in your truck bed you'll need all the help you can get.
If you aren't already using a weight distribution system then I recommend pairing the shank I referenced above with the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37121ET. This will not only help to level out your towing system, but it also distributes the tongue weight between all of the axles involved, and it is rated high enough to help handle the weight of the golf cart as well.
