Troubleshooting Electric Lockout on Trailer w/ Surge Coupler and Solenoid
Question:
I have the same issue, but I just replaced the actuator with solenoid I can hear it engage when in reverse but trailer won’t back up. The only difference in the original actuator vs new the solenoid has 2 wires my old had single. I did ground the white wire. Solenoid gets power but doesn’t engage. Help please?

It sounds like you have replaced both your actuator and possibly your solenoid and are still having an issue with the brakes engaging when you reverse. If I am reading your question correctly it definitely sounds like a wiring issue leading up to your actuator and solenoid if everything's new.
You will want to use a circuit tester like item # PTW2993 to check the accessory pin on your truck's 7-way. If you're getting power through this then you'll want to inspect your ground wire. Make sure it is securely attached to a bare piece of metal that isn't corroded or rusted over.
If you just replaced the actuator and you're using your original solenoid, I recommend replacing it with the Replacement Solenoid Valve item # T4748800 you were looking at.
