Determining The Correct Size Adapter To Connect A 5th Wheel King Pin To A Gooseneck Ball

Question:

I am buying a 5th wheel trailer. It currently has the 5th wheel plate. I have a B AND W goose neck hitch in my truck. 2008 dodge ram 2500. Long box crew cab NOT a mega cab. I want to buy an adapter to go from the 5th wheel to my goose neck how do I know what one and what length to buy. My truck is stock hight. I do have air bags but no lift kit or oversize tires. What adapter do I need?

Hi Kegan,

To determine the height needed for a gooseneck to 5th wheel adapter you'll just need to measure. You'll want to be on level ground and use your trailer's leveling system to ensure that it's fully level and the measure from the ground up to the plate that the king pin is welded to. You'll also need to measure from the ground up to the bed of the truck. The difference in these two measurements is the height needed for the adapter.

The Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100 you were looking at is 11-3/4" tall when the adapter is fully collapsed and 14-3/4" when adapter is fully extended.
