What Would Cause OEM Brake Controller Connector to Not Show Trailer Connection

Question:

I have a 2006 Dodge 3500 that I use to pull trailers and camper. I also have a tandem axle dump trailer that I am having issues with the brakes coming on and the controller not recognizing that its hooked up. Check wiring at the pigtail and I have voltage but controller is not showing it is connected or working. Thank you for your help

Hey Charlie, so the problem is MOST LIKELY corrosion on the trailer wiring connector as that is the issue nearly everytime so I would try cleaning the pins of your 7-way with sandpaper to improve the connection. Aside from that basically you would need to trace the output circuit from the connector back to the assemblies looking for any obvious signs of a short and fix as needed.

Controller says it has connection but there's no brakeing applied, either with foot pedal or hand switch. It's a prodigy controller that is 18 years old. So I ordered a new one.

@Charlie Gotcha, yeah I think you made the right call. 18 years is pretty old for a brake controller.
