Bike Rack Recommendation for 2013 Hyundai Veloster Non-Turbo Model

Question:

Hi, I found your 20 best bike racks for a 2013 Veloster page. Out of these 20 I was wondering if you could help me narrow it down. I would mostly be carrying 1 bike, and would want to easily remove the rack when I wasnt using it. I have the non-turbo version of the car if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Your 2013 Hyundai Veloster can be fitted with two types of bike carrier, a trunk-mount type and a hitch-mount type. Each offers certain advantages and disadvantages

The benefits of a hitch-mount rack are that the vehicle's sheet metal does not have to carry the combined weight load of the rack and bike, something for which it was not really designed. This helps reduce the potential for damage to its finish. Tilting-type hitch racks also allow for better access to your rear hatch and their installation and removal is simple - insert the rack's shank into your hitch and place the hitch pin (or lock). A hitch also enables use of other compatible accessories such as a light-duty cargo carrier. However, since your vehicle has a center exhaust, heat becomes a concern since the hitch (and whatever is attached to it) can become hot from exhaust gases.

A trunk-mount rack may be more cost-effective than a hitch/hitch rack but will require a bit more effort for installation and removal since this type typically uses 4 to 6 straps or cables to attach to your Veloster. However, vehicles like yours that have a rear spoiler can pose a challenge to many trunk-type carriers. The two linked articles will give you good background information to help you consider your preferences.

We do offer one hitch for your car, Curt # C11254, which is a light-duty Class I hitch capable of carrying no more than 2 bikes. With this hitch you can use a Class I 2-bike carrier such as the Rola NV2 Hitch Mounted 2 Bike Rack # 59508 or one of the others shown on the link provided.

If you prefer a trunk-mount type then there is one rack that is ideal for your vehicle, the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2 Bike Carrier # HRF2. This rack is designed specifically to work with vehicles with spoilers. Since you are transporting only one bike, I suggest this trunk-mount rack as your best option. We offer products to help secure the rack to your vehicle, part # TH533, and to secure your bike to the rack, part # e98891. If your bike does not have a horizontal top frame tube (as with women's step-through-frame designs) you might want an adapter bar to make mounting the bike easier and safer. We offer # HRBA-PRO from Hollywood Racks.
