How To Wire The Hopkins Backup Sensor System # HM60100VA To Power
Question:
I would like to add this to the FRONT of my Ford Expedition. Do you have any installation guidance on where to pickup the 12V power and how to switch it on from inside the vehicle with an unobtrusive switch that easily mounts near the dash with no drilling? Thank you.

Hey Jim,
The Hopkins Backup Sensor System # HM60100VA needs to be ran to the reverse light circuit so you'd have to run the wire through the rear hatch to the grommet at the hinge and then run it over to either the driver or passenger side tail light. To determine which wire is the reverse light you can test the wires running to the tail light with a hook and probe tester # PTW2993 and see which one only has power when the vehicle is in reverse and then use a butt connector # DW05744-5 to splice your power in. For the ground you can just use a ring terminal # DW05702-1 and self-tapping screw to mount the wire to the frame. You'll likely need additional 16 gauge wire # 16-1-1 in order to make it from the license plate over to the lights.
I've attached a video below where Dave installs this camera on a van to give you a better idea of what you'll need to do to get it installed.
