Looking for Weight Distribution System Compatible with Surge Coupler on Trailer
Question:
When shopping for surge brake compatible WD hitches, etrailer indicates that there are several Curt hitches that are surge compatible. Other sites say that the chain hook ups will not allow the surge brakes to function properly by not allowing the trailer to surge as necessary. Other sites indicate that only the Reese SC and Equalizer Hitch will work properly with surge brakes. Please explain as I really like the Curt with chains better, but have to have brakes to work properly. Thanks!

Although Curt tells us that their chain suspended W/D systems will work with surge couplers, I typically don't recommend a chain suspended bar system for trailers with surge or hydraulic brake couplers. In my opinion, the tension provided by the spring bars can prevent proper compression of the coupler when the tow vehicle brakes.
For a surge coupler equipped trailer, I much prefer the Reese Steadi-Flex or the Equal-i-zer system which allows free movement of the coupler. If you'd care to reply with the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer, plus the weight of anything stowed in the cargo area of the tow vehicle behind the rear axle, I'd be happy to make some recommendations.
I've linked you to a help article that describes how to determine your trailer tongue weight, plus more information about weight distribution.
