Will Derale Series 8000 Cooler Work Well on a 2021 Toyota Tundra Towing a 25' Trailer

Question:

Does the 8,000 on a 2021 tundra do an adequate job if pulley a 25 foot travel trailer 4500? Also does this block airflow to the radiator and ac condenser causing issues with those two ? Thanks

Hey Kevin, thanks for reaching out!

Yes, the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13502 is essentially our industry-standard transmission cooler and it will do a good job for towing with your 2021 Toyota Tundra.

If you install this in front of those then yes, it will block airflow. Keep in mind though that this is designed to help cool down your transmission fluid as well so while it would be blocking some airflow to your radiator, it's also helping the radiator out.

We have higher-end coolers that use fans and can basically be mounted anywhere in the engine bay, but unless you're going to be putting your Tundra through the ringer, the 8000 unit will work great for you!

The 8000 says it's for mid size truck the tundra is full size. Will it still work ? Also I saw something about a oil drain temp unit

Jon is there a way to put a temp gauge in the line or inlet of cooler ? I'm worried about drilling into the pan

@Jon To avoid drilling a hole like what you see with the Kit # D13009, you'll need to get the Remote Filter Kit # D13091, or go with a fan-style transmission cooler and use one of those styles of temp gauge or thermostats.

@JonG I'm not questioning your instructions, I just don't know if your aware that a 2019 tundra has no outlet and inlet lines coming out of the transmission. So I don't see how any of these can work. I know e trailer has excellent videos on how to. Can they get a 2019 - 2021 tundra to film how to install a cooler . There is a company out there that makes one "genuine cooling systems, but they are $1,200

@Jon Okay, I did some digging and spoke with our fitguide team about why the transmission coolers are listed to fit the newer Tundras. Basically, when they were doing research, Toyota had a cooler listed out in the specs for the trucks but didn't make it clear that it was an "internal cooler". We carried over our fit list since these aftermarket coolers are essentially universal but didn't know about the internal cooler system until now. Our team is taking down those listings for a Tundra to avoid any confusion so you'll need to go with a different kit like what you referenced. I apologize for any confusion on this, but I do appreciate your feedback and insight! We try to keep our fit list relevant and sometimes things slip through the cracks like this. Thank you!
