What Causes Abnormal Tire Wear on One Tire on a Tandem Axle Trailer
Question:
I have a tandem pontoon trailer. Three of the four tire treads are wearing exactly the same, but the fourth one has worn most of its tread. This tire is found on the second axle. What could be the reason for this tires unusual wearing? Both axles seem to be in the same condition and appearance. Thanks for your help.

Expert Reply:
Typically when only one tire on a trailer wears out on a tandem axle trailer the problem is axle alignment. That would be the first place I would start.
Other possible issues are damaged rim, damaged or worn suspension components, bent axle, bad wheel bearings, one brake assembly locking up when stopping and/or axle overloading.
