Best Solutions For Carrying a Bike Rack Behind a 2004 Honda CR-V

Question:

Hello, I am interested in purchasing a bike rack. Unfortunately I drive a 2004 Honda CRV so this makes the issue a bit more complicated. 1. The trunk opens sideways 2. The spare tire is off centered 3. I have no hitch Do you all have a product you suggest given these issues. Thank you, Elliott

The simplest and most economical option is going to be the Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier # HRSR1. This does mount on the spare tire but the arms which hold the bike can be slide to the side allowing you to better center the bikes behind your 2004 Honda CR-V. Do understand the maximum weight for each bike is 35lbs for this and is common among these types of racks.

For a stronger rack that will be easier to use with your rear door you would want to add our Receiver # e69AR. This would allow you to use the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack # KU84FR with the Swing Away # PVP20B. The swing away not only provides you with the ability to swing the bike rack to the side and open your rear door it will also give you an additional 12" of clearance for your bike to clear the spare tire. This would be the route I recommend as it can handle bikes up to 60lbs and gives you a receiver which would allow you to tow a small trailer or add a cargo carrier if needed in the future. Plus the bike rack is able to be used with all different vehicles in the future where the one that fits on the spare tire requires you to have a spare tire to hang it on.
