Roof Repair Troubleshooting On A 2016 Thor Tuscany XTE Motorhome

Question:

I am replacing the molding screw cover at the top of my motorhome. The old screw cover is folded at the ends and ed under the molding. How do you get the old top Molding Trim Screw Cover out from behind the metal molding? I loosened the last screw on each end, but the old vinyl doesnt want to come out.

Hey James,

Can you send me some pictures of the molding so I can get a better idea of what could be preventing you from pulling up the vinyl?

I sent pictures. It's hard to see, but the ends of the vinyl are behind the molding.

@JamesB I got the pictures. These channels are held to the trailer wall with screws and either butyl tape or some kind of glue. Butyl tape is typically easier to remove than glue so let's hope that's what they used on your RV. I would start by removing the screws and then scoring along the edge of the channel with a razor knife, being careful not to cut into the wall of the RV. you can then use some composite trim panel tools # PT73HJ to pry up the channel without scratching the walls. Sealant is typically added along every edge and over any screws to help prevent water from leaking in so you'll likely have to spend quite a bit of time picking it off.
